The KEBMAINT PURGE and LOAD commands do extensive reading and writing of the EPILOG datastore. Depending upon the volume of records processed and the size of the EPILOG datastore, these commands may execute for a long time. We recommend that all purging and loading be done in the batch environment. If a large amount of data is collected each day, you might want to consider a more frequent maintenance cycle. Remember that when you are doing a large volume of record deletions, it is more efficient to use REPRO and KEBUTIL rather than PURGE.
The EPILOG datastore is a VSAM key-sequenced cluster, which means that all the standard restrictions for VSAM files apply to the EDS. Your own environment will guide your maintenance, tuning, backup, and reorganization strategy.
