OMEGAMON II is a performance monitor for IMS. It monitors critical data about IMS as well as MVS, application software, and hardware. It returns statistics about degradation and resource utilization.
The EPILOG historical component of OMEGAMON II provides this performance data for periods of days, weeks, or months. It periodically takes samples and stores them in an EPILOG datastore (EDS). The EDS is an historical database of IMS system performance data which you can review interactively or through batch reports.
In TSO, you can view information in the EDS. You can analyze performance degradation for any given period to make decisions about how to improve future performance. EPILOG shows statistics historically, providing information over a period of time. This greatly extends the capabilities of realtime monitors and allows you to review the causes of poor performance after the fact.
EPILOG also includes standard batch reports. You use pre-established sets of commands to get reports on the capacity, performance, or service level of a data center. You can modify standard reports for specific situations, or you can create new reports.
The basis of OMEGAMON II’s EPILOG historical component is Candle’s DBCTL tuning philosophy, which centers around service-level analysis, bottleneck analysis, and resource analysis. EPILOG can assist you with the following:
recognition of poor throughput, and provision of bottleneck statistics to identify major bottlenecks
review of resources associated with bottlenecks to pinpoint the precise component that needs improvement
evaluation of how effective the latest changes were in correcting either hardware or software bottlenecks
