This option defines a table of 8-character symbolic names for the numeric groups defined with the GROUP command. SYMNAME accepts a set of arguments in parentheses: a symbolic name (optionally enclosed in single quotes to allow imbedded blanks) followed by an associated group number. Each symbolic name must be unique, and each group can be defined only by the symbolic name.
SYMNAME (PAYROLL 1) SYMNAME (BILLING 2) SYMNAME (‘TEST 1’ 14)
You can let EPILOG set default symbolic group names for all groups you define. You define groups as GROUP nn, where nn is the number of the group.
When using the DISPLAY command in the EPILOG reporter to display information about a group, you can refer to the group by either its number (with GRP) or the symbolic name that you assigned (with SYMNAME).
This option is used to collect resource data when another vendor product is used instead of RMF to monitor system resources.
MESSAGES (or MSGS)
This option allows EPILOG to display the following messages to the MVS operator’s console: ECW002, ECW004, and ECW006. This is the default.
NOMESSAGES (or NOMG)
This option keeps the following messages from displaying on the MVS console: ECW002, ECW004, and ECW006.
GROUP (or GRP)
This option defines PSB groups. For details on using this option, see “Data collection groups” on page 47.
