A Deadly Silver Sea is the fourth book by fourth generation Floridian mystery writer Bob Morris. It comes out December 9. The fifth of his Zack Chasteen Florida and Caribbean-based mysteries, Baja Florida, is due out in 2009. You can ask him about them at the Friends February 24 author luncheon. He’ll be vying for attention with his cohort in crime, James Born. Morris says his interests are food, drink and arguing, usually in that order. www.bobmorris.net
The Steel Wave is the second in Jeff Shaara’s World War II trilogy and his eighth best seller. His first book, Gods and Generals, was on the NY Times Best Seller list for 15 weeks and then made into a movie of the same name in 2003. That novel was the prequel to his father Michael Shaara’s classic novel, The Killer Angels, which was made into the 1993 movie, Gettysburg. Those interested in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars and World War II won’t want to miss this literary war expert at the Friends March 20 author luncheon. www.jeffshaara.com

Why should readers in SW Florida pay to have lunch with you in January?
to know the things nobody's reporting about. Once journalism is in your blood, it never goes away. And for all of those who criticize the mainstream media, just remember that there's a reason that freedom of the press was included in the Constitution. We need people asking the tough questions and making sure that light shines into all the darkest corners of the world.
Beyond supporting a wonderful cause, of course, we're going to have a great time. There's nothing I love more than talking about books with other folks who love them. It was my favorite part of owning a bookstore for 10 years and I miss it. So, I won't be the only one talking on January 22. I want everyone there to fill me in on authors they love, so I can discover some new books, too! www.sherrylwoods.com
