Reasons to celebrate from our Friends of South County Regional Library Board President

It’s time for our Friends group to come to life as Fall is upon us and
the snowbirds are flying south once again. As we start the 2008-09 season, I’m reminded that this is an important one for us. We will celebrate our 5th Anniversary in March, 2009. We have accomplished much in almost five years and this promises to be still another year when we are able to support South County Regional Library financially.

completely updated over the summer and sports a new look. Complete archives of our event photos and press clippings are displayed in a wonderful online scrapbook for all to see. This work was done by Kim Dailey of Papyrus Document & Design who is also the Friends webmaster. The updated look of the website even includes a “weather bug” on the home page so members can see the temperature and sky condition in Estero no matter where they are!
Barnes & Noble has advised us that the 20% discount for in- store book purchases under our Institutional Account will expire on December 31, 2008 and will not be available to our Friends group in 2009.
the Library Meeting Room. This purchase, totaling around $20,000, represents our largest contribution to date to the Library. It will make a significant difference in the sound and video quality of programs and greatly add to the enjoyment of those attending. We expect to have the purchase finalized and installation completed by year end. Sounds like a great way to start our 5th year!

other Friends members who handle things all summer long while many of us are up north.
A note about “First Dibs,” our
continuous book sale at the Library. Last March, we added a second bookcase. Through late October of 2008, sales were $9,700 which is 98% of what we sold all last year, and we still have two months to go in 2008. We’ll give a full report of total revenues and information about what your efforts and support are accomplishing at the Friends Annual Meeting. Hear the news and enjoy a good program scheduled for January 30 at the Library.
Target, in the amount of $2,050, which will fund SCRL’s entire concert program for the season. In a period of economic downturn, we are pleased to be able to provide this programming for the Library which is experiencing significant budget reductions.
