VCAL COOKBOOK FUNDRAISER

One of the VCAL tasks this semester was to complete a cook book from scratch. VCAL is a hands on approach to learning. We each chose a favourite recipe that we would like to cook, we organized an excursion to Doutta Stars football club to use their kitchen to cook our recipes, and the purpose of that day was to test our recipes. Our aim of writing the cookbook is to raise money and awareness for a charity of our choice which was The Caroline Chisholm Society. The Society provides a range of programs for families in need, including counselling, housing, material aid and in home family support. The families that the Caroline Chisholm Society works with are often bereft of wider social and family support and are very grateful for the practical, emotional and financial support the Society offers. We chose this charity as we thought it needed the help and support of our local community.

As we are going to be selling the cookbook to people in our local community we also thought that this Charity was a good choice because of the big part they play in this area as they are located in Park St, Essendon. We have spent a lot of time trying to think of new ideas and what types of food we wanted the cookbook to include and we decided to allocate food courses which were to be different sections of the book to each student in the VCAL class. These included; soups, entrees, mains, deserts and a kids section. To include something different into our cookbook we came up with the idea of interviewing and receiving a few recipes of some well- known people around this area who wished to help us undergo our project. Comedian Vince Sorenti, Assistant Coach of Essendon Gary O’Donnell & local cafe owners from Rose St are just some of the people who donated recipes. As part of the final section of our project we decided to throw a book launch at our VCAL graduation which we will held on the 27th of October at 12 noon to promote and sell the cookbook which will also be sold at St. Columba’s Twilight market which is on Wednesday the 11th November from 5:00pm- 8:00pm. Yr 12 students, friends, family and staff are invited to join the launch. If you would like to attend the book launch please contact Ms. Greta Bajada at the college.

Cook books will be $10 each with all proceeds donated to Caroline Chisholm Society.
