Revenue Budget

The Council’s total revenue budget for 2006/7 is £173.7 million including £82.6m funded by the new Dedicated Schools Grant. A number of unavoidable pressures totalling around £3m have been accommodated within this budget along with new investment to support the Council’s Priorities for example;

  • increased funding for social care for both adults and children;

  • increased funding for highways maintenance;

  • new resources for the maintenance of the Council buildings;

  • funding for support to the new Wash Common library;

  • additional funding to support the implementation of the Council’s Employment strategy;

  • additional support to enhance recruitment and retention within the Council’s workplace;

  • new funding to support Social Enterprise Berkshire;

  • funding to expand the community warden scheme or support Police Community Support Officers;

  • funding to pump prime a ‘Clean and Green programme’ promoting recycling, improved energy, efficiency and green travel within the Council.

Taken together these investments total £2.4m.

All this has been achieved in a challenging financial environment of a below inflation finance settlement from Government.

Capital Budget

The Council’s overall Capital Programme will be significantly greater than that funded from its own resources and in 2006/07 includes;

  • ringfenced Government Grants e.g. Modernised Grant, E-government etc

  • Section 106 monies (Developers Contributions)

  • Direct Contributions

  • Partnership contributions e.g. Primary Care Trusts

  • External funds e.g. Heritage Lottery Fund, European Social Fund

For 2006/07 the total Capital Programme will be at £25m.
