The Benefits

Final Salary Pension Scheme The Council provides a final salary contracted-out pension scheme. All employees have the right to be admitted to the Scheme. Full details are provided on the enclosed leaflet.

Generous annual leave entitlement Paid leave of between 26 and 29 days is provided. In addition employees are entitled to another 5 days leave after 5 years continuous Local Government service.

Flexible Working Hours Normal hours are 37 per week. However, the Council operates a scheme of flexible working providing for varying start and finish times to suit individual needs, subject to operational requirements.

Travel scheme The scheme provides qualifying employees with the option of car leasing, cash supplement, or a car loan providing worry free motoring. Full scheme details are available from Human Resources upon request.

Training and Development All staff are encouraged to take advantage of the comprehensive range of learning & development opportunities available. The Council actively encourages staff to achieve their full potential and is working towards becoming a learning organisation.

Performance Management The Council operates an annual appraisal process, with interim one to one meetings with your manager, which supports both Council and individual aspirations, aims and objectives.

Sickness Pay Up to 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay is provided after qualifying service.

Maternity / Paternity Benefits The scheme entitles qualifying employees up to 52 weeks maternity leave and enhanced maternity pay, and paid paternity leave. We also participate in the “Right to Ask” giving serious consideration to applications from parents returning from maternity leave to request the right to flexible working.

Relocation Scheme A relocation scheme is available for certain posts. Details of the scheme are available from Human Resources.

Union Membership The Council is committed to collective arrangements for staff consultation and bargaining. Employees are encouraged to join a recognised trade union and to take part in its activities.

Office Accommodation The Council has 3 main offices situated in the centre of Newbury, all of which are smoke-free. The shops, restaurants and a variety of leisure facilities are a short walk away.
