An employee with five or more years continuous local government service is entitled to an extra 5 days service.

Working Hours Normal hours are 37 per week. An employee’s hours of work and work pattern shall be agreed with the Line Manager. The Council operates a scheme of flexible working, which is available subject to service requirements.

Sickness Pay In the case of absence from duty due to illness you will be entitled to an allowance in accordance with the following scale:

During 1st year of service (and after completing 4 months service)

1 months full pay (2 months half pay)

During 2nd year of service

2 months full pay and 2 months half pay.

During 3rd year of service

4 months full pay and 4 months half pay.

During 4th and 5th years of service

5 months full pay and 5 months half pay.

After 5 years of service

6 months full pay and 6 months half pay.

Salary Incremental progression each year is dependent upon an annual performance review. If this is satisfactory your salary will be advanced on 1 April annually until the maximum salary is reached. Staff who are appointed between the 1 October and the 31 March will receive their first increment 6 months after their employment.

Pension The Council provides a contracted-out pension scheme, under the Local Government Pension Scheme Regulations 1995. All employees have the right to be admitted to the Local Government Pension Scheme.
