Nordonia Band Continues Excellence

The Lancer Band participated in a competition at Crestwood High School and earned a "Superior" rating which qualifies them to compete at the State O.M.E.A. Competition on Oct. 25, 2008, in Columbus. Recently, Nordonia hosted the 17th Annual Festival of Bands where ten high school marching bands competed on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Performing were Wick- liffe, Struthers, Ravenna, Marlington, Lexington, Firestone, North Ridge- ville, North Royalton and Amherst Steele. Thank you to all who volunteered and supported this exciting event. The Band continues to raise funds for various activities, among them is a trip to Disney World during spring break in April of 2009. Oranges and grapefruits will be for sale by the students in November. Stock up on Vitamin C for the winter and support the band, too! The band will also be teaming up with Rushwood Elementary School for their Market Day Pie Sale in November; be prepared for the holidays and order some pies. The Marching Band concert is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. in the high school gym. All are welcome.

Foreign Language Department Helping Students

This year, the French, German and Spanish teachers set up a September review program for level 2 students. The level 2 students could meet each Monday night after school for one-half hour to reinforce verb conjugations and sentence formation. Any student still needing assis- tance is encouraged to make arrangements with his/her teacher for additional help. Tutoring is available before and after school. Additionally, foreign language teachers are assigned tutor- ing duties periods 2,3 4, 5 and 6. The very best help for all students is to learn vocabulary. Keeping up with vocabulary is the number one way to improve your grade. Here‟s what‟s happening in: *Level 1: Our level 1 students are beginning to make sentences. They are learning the joys of conjugating verbs. *Level 2: Our level 2 students are beginning to speak using different tenses. *Level 3: German 3 students have just finished hosting Oktoberfest for the level 3 French and Spanish classes. The students did a magnificent job cooking authentic German cuisine and sharing the history of this very German celebration.

Reminder to parents….Check ProgressBook and keep encouraging daily studying.
