Younger People

Place Survey 08/09. Although improvements have been made there is there is a desire to see more provision for young people. Residents in Filey identified activities for teenagers as the highest priority for things that needed improving. Young people should be involved in developing services that meet their needs. Informal provision and tolerance of young people who may just wish to meet together and not be part of a formal group or activity. This could include youth café type provision. Promote intergenerational opportunities that bring together older and young people to improve relationships between the generations. Introduce young person’s champion on the Town Council.

Sport, Leisure and Open Space

  • The lack of an indoor all weather facility is consistently identified as an issue locally, with a desire to see such a facility provided to serve the south of the borough.

  • Maximise the potential of the Country Park for outdoor events to serve both visitors and local residents.

Heritage, Art and Culture

  • Drawing on the rich local history of the area, there is considered to be scope for the establishment of a “Discovery Centre” in the town which would provide a high quality experience for visitors to learn more about the story and history of Filey Bay, particularly drawing on the internationally renowned maritime history of the area. Such a centre also has potential for workspace, exhibition space and a high quality café and restaurant, as well as providing employment opportunities.

  • Development of purpose built archives so that collections within the Town can be stored together within Filey.

Environment

  • Support the application (submitted by SBC) to extend the existing “Heritage Coast” from Gristhorpe to Flamborough (Filey Heritage Coast).

  • The Town Council would support local provision for household waste recycling if an appropriate local site becomes available to enable local people to recycle more easily and to reduce travelling times.
