Brian Cleary, our MD, working for Stage Electrics, took on the task of preparing the London homecoming for Ellen Macarthur after her record- breaking round the world yacht trip. Employed as the event H&S manager he had 7 days to deliver a safe and memorable
event; made all the more difficult by the fact that the site originally chosen was Tower Bridge.
The first job was to convince the organisers that Cutty Sark Gardens would better suit the occasion, followed by a week of negotiations with everybody from Scotland Yard to fencing contractors.
The police, all emergency services and local council were impressed by the depth of research and attention to detail in the safety manual considering the short timescale. The event went off without a hitch and close to 10,000 people saw their heroine in the flesh in Central London.
Also for Stage Electrics, Brian Cleary managed ‘Blast!’ for Bristol City Council in Millennium Square, Bristol. An outdoor pyrotechnic masterpiece by ‘The World Famous’ this included a city centre audience of 3,000+ treated to a fantastic display incorporating multimedia displays, and a “rocket” in the audience. Safety, as always, was paramount but this project is a great demonstration of Sygma’s “don’t say no, say how?” approach to H&S.
