AMPs May Program Recap
Michelle Licht, National Press Club
he AMPs May program — Better Speakers, Better Deals: Budget-friendly Ideas to Improve the Quality of Your Meetings — gave members ideas on how raise the quality of their speakers they have at events, while keeping on a budget. T
The meeting was hosted by The Carnegie Institution for Sci- ence and sponsored by Team San Jose, with AV sponsored by Pro AV DC and valet parking sponsored by Atlantic Services Group, Inc. Members enjoyed the breathtaking atmosphere of the location and delicious food by Geppetto Catering, Inc. served on 100% recyclable bamboo plates.
Some tips that were shared by Ed Barks: when booking speak- ers, learn how to negotiate, negotiate, negotiate. Be creative
offer an invitation to the speaker and their guest to the net-
working reception, dinner or breakfast, the day before they are speaking.
Let speakers sell their books at the event. Provide them with an attendee list with contact information. Look into book- ing professors from local universities to speak, they may not charge as much.
Some ways to raise the level of your speakers is to offer some on-site training programs or media training. Not only will your speaker benefit from giving a better presentation, but the au- dience will thank you for making the seminar more enjoyable.
