Laura Lea Sipes Memorial Scholarship Fund – this fund provides minimum $1000 grants to graduating female seniors from Jefferson County who wish to attend any four year college or university on a full time basis. Minimum GPA of 3.0 and ACT score of 22 or SAT score of 1090 is required. Must demonstrate financial need and have overcome an obstacle in life. M-H Tuggle Scholarship Fund – Created by the descendants of Charles Tuggle – a slave freed by his owner in 1861 – to provide up to $3,000 scholarships for higher education. Margaret and Lee Thomas Fund –This scholarship is for students from Jefferson County to attend undergraduate school on a full time basis. The scholarship is worth $1,000 and is renewable. Rochester Institute of Technology Spirit Writing Contest for the Deaf and Hearing Impaired – this is an opportunity for students with these disabilities to submit their portfolio of original work. Winners receive tuition and expenses paid to attend Explore Your Future, RIT’s six day summer career exploration program, including an all-expenses paid two day visit to EYF for a parent or $500 in cash. Valley Women’s Club and Councilman Doug Hawkins Scholarships for Students Who Reside in the 40272 Zip Code – Four $1200 scholarships will be awarded to students who live in the 40272 Zip Code, who are in need of financial aid, who have at least a 3.0 GPA, have a letter of endorsement from their school counselor, and will be attending an accredited college, university, or vocational school in the fall of 2009. Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition – this is a solo performance competition for classical, jazz, and contemporary musicians interested in winning a $5,000 retail credit toward purchase of a professional quality Yamaha instrument and gain national exposure while debuting in New York City. There are many more opportunities associated with this program and a YPAS alumni student has won this award in the past. Application materials are included in the packet of information in the College Career Room. An audition CD must be submitted in addition to the application form, nominations, and letters of recommendation. Deadline: March 15, 2009.

Denny Crum Scholarship Foundation – this is a scholarship opportunity for high school seniors from the greater Louisville area that will be attending a college or university in Louisville. Students should have demonstrated record of leadership and community service as well as a GPA of 3.0 or higher. There is some materials that must be requested from your guidance counselor by March 2, 2009. All application materials are located in the College Career Room. Deadline for postmark of all materials is March 16, 2009.

Sewanee Summer Music Festival – this intense summer music experience is held annually at the University of the South in Sewanee Tennessee. It is a five week program in which students receive private lessons and perform in a chamber ensemble and full orchestra each week. This is one of the top summer music festivals in the United States. An audition cd is required and there is a $3,500 all inclusive tuition. Deadline: March 16, 2009.
