To determine the scope of the Clover Park School District’s curriculum, the auditors examined all curriculum documents submitted by the district, and reviewed course catalogues. Auditors also interviewed district personnel and visited each school site.

The auditors did not find specific board policies requiring written curriculum guides for all subject areas and courses taught in the district. What the auditors found were broad policies on curriculum:

  • Board Policy 4001: Curriculum states that “it is the responsibility of the Board to prescribe the district’s curriculum which reflects the needs of all students…. The superintendent will develop procedures to insure for periodic revision of the curriculum….”

  • Board Policy 4001-R1: Curriculum Management states that “Goals and objectives are the curriculum tools of the Clover Park School District. Together they define the intent of the curriculum, specify content by grade and course, and provide a basis for assessment….”

In accordance with audit criteria, the scope of the written curriculum is rated adequate if 70 percent or more of the courses offered have curriculum guides. Curriculum development has been initiated recently as a first step toward a comprehensive effort district-wide. Exhibit 2.1.1 shows the scope of the written curriculum which is being used at the elementary and middle school levels.
