I will start my report by thanking all members for the help and support the committee received in the run up to and during Nairn Show 2009 at Kinnudie Farm Auldearn . Also many thanks are due to Mr and Mrs J Philip for kindly allowing us the use of their fields and for agreeing to do so again for 2010.
The year started last year with the AGM and Dinner in the Nairn Golf Club where we had an excellent meal followed by tremendous speeches. The Prosperity of the Society toasted by Hugh Ironside. I am hoping for a repeat of both on Friday the 19th February 2010.
The show was a great success on the day due to the real effort put in by many Helpers, Members, Stewards and not least the Secretary, Treasurer and Show Convenor.
On the day I discovered again that the duties of President involves a lot more than standing about looking pretty but I really enjoyed it.
On the financial side we managed to get the show to the positive side of the line which was due to a lot of hard work and prudence shown by our treasurer. A big thank you is due also to the trustees of the Davidson Trust who helped us out this year by paying the hire fees for a lot of the marquees which are needed for the successful running of the Show.
During the year we also suffered the sad loss of our Patron Douglas Stewart who was a stalwart of the society for many years including the attendance at the AGM and Annual Dinner for sixty consecutive years. We will all miss his wisdom and sense. This sad loss led to Mr Sandy Forbes being appointed as our new Patron.
Also a mention for our new Treasurer Karen Young and Show convenor David Hay who have seamlessly stepped into the roles. We also have new Chief Sheep and Horse Stewards in Peter Forbes and Aileen Campbell, and with Ian Innes stepping up to take care of the Cattle in the main ring in the afternoon it has been a real year of change. I would like to thank them all for their efforts to make the Nairn show 2009 the success it was and to take it forward for the future.
As well as the show we had a successful Prize Giving evening in the Golf View in October. In November we held our biennial ball in the Nairn Golf Club which was a good evening enjoyed by all those attending. Thanks to Lynn Forbes, Irene MacArthur and Trisha Roberts for organising these events.
For the Annual General Meeting we will again have the annual dinner in the Nairn Golf Club, which will hopefully be a sell-out and an excellent evening following on from the success of last year’s dinner. One of the best I have attended for which thanks for which must go to the Golf Club and to the excellent line up of speakers and speeches. Following on from the success of last years auction and prize draw in aid of the Societies funds we are repeating the exercise this year. Big thanks to those who bid for and donated items on sale.
Lastly I would like to thank Trisha, Karen, Davie and Lillian for the effort they have all put in this year and to keeping the Society on the straight and narrow. Also thanks must go to all members and others who have supported the Nairn Show and the Farming Society throughout the last year.
