SAT-Score of 1000 with at least 450-Verbal and 510-Math.
ACT-Composite score of 21 with at least 21-Math and 37-English Plus Reading.
SAT-Score of 1100 with at least 530-Verbal and 530-Math.
ACT-Composite score of 24 with at least 22-Math and 46-English Plus Reading.
Valid out-of-state teaching license in effect at time of application for an initial license.
Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment (VCLA)
Two subtests: reading and writing, scored separately.
All teachers applying for initial licensure beginning January 1, 2006
Individuals who have completed a minimum of two years of full-time, successful teaching experience in an accredited school (K-12) in a state than Virginia. (Substitute or aide experience is not acceptable.)
Individuals who graduate from Virginia approved programs prior to December 31, 2006, and who have taken and passed the Praxis I (ACT or SAT); Praxis II; and the Virginia Reading Assessment (VRA) if applicable.
Individuals whose applications for initial licenses and passing scores for Praxis I (Reading, Writing, and Mathematics) are received at VDOE on or before Dec. 31, 2006, will not be required to take and pass the VCLA. During this period of time, applicants may submit Praxis I the VCLA to satisfy the academic skills assessment.
Individuals who were issued a provisional license, special education conditional license, or statement of eligibility prior to January 1, 2006, and were advised that they needed to take and pass Praxis I, do not need to take the VCLA unless the license expires.
