The Purchasing Management Association of Canada (PMAC) is Canada’s largest association for the purchasing and supply management profession and offers two different programs:
Supply Management Training Program, and
Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program.

Program 1: Supply Management Training Program (SMTP) The courses in this program replace the previous Principles courses and can lead to a Supply Management Training Certificate. The four courses in this Supply Management Training Program are – Introduction to: Procurement, Logistics, Transportation, and Operations Management.
This Supply Management Training Program is tailored to the needs of junior buyers, purchasing assistants, and intermediate practitioners requiring a technical competence in supply management. The training will also be of interest to others seeking knowledge of supply management at an introductory technical level.
In Autumn 2009, Vanier College, Continuing Education will offer two Supply Management Training Program courses: Introduction to Procurement and Introduction to Operations Management.
Introduction to Procurement From recognizing a need to issuing a purchase order, participants will learn the essentials of determining quantity, specifications and price that are the cornerstone of procurement. This course covers a variety of procurement scenarios: repetitive purchases of production materials, procuring one-time low-cost items, large capital goods acquisition and securing commodities under long-term supply contracts. The opportunities and challenges of
international procurement versus domestic will be discussed. Participants will gain a broad understanding of the role of procurement and the various ways it can be organized. A Course Manual will be supplied. The textbook will be available for purchase at the Vanier College Bookstore.

Introduction to Operations Management This course will familiarize participants with operations in manufacturing, distribution and services organizations. They will learn the basics of location selection and layout. Among topics covered are capacity planning and scheduling, as well as the key concepts of JIT/Lean, OPT/TOC and MRP. Participants will discuss the challenges of balancing capacity with demand and be introduced to forecasting techniques, demand planning and inventory ordering. Quality systems and continuous improvement methodologies, including Deming, Juran, ISO 9000 and Six Sigma, will also be addressed A Course Manual will be supplied. The textbook will be available for purchase at the Vanier College Bookstore.

Program 2: Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program (SSCMLP) The Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program leading to Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) accreditation is the most comprehensive in the field of supply chain management. It is balanced to deliver advanced supply chain management knowledge and high-level business skills. The program is competency-based and participatory in nature with a focus on analysis, teamwork and decision-making.
The eight modules in this Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program are: Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Supply Management, Logistics and Transportation, Operations and Process Management, Knowledge Management, Global Sourcing, Supply Chain Management for the Public Sector, Supply Chain Management for Services, and Capital Goods and Major Projects.
This Strategic Supply Chain Management Leadership Program is intended for senior buyers, purchasing agents, senior managers, and management personnel interested in acquiring their Certified Professional Purchaser (C.P.P.) designation.
In Autumn 2009, Vanier College, Continuing Education will offer one course: Module 1: Supply Chain Management.
Module 1: Supply Chain Management The goal of this module is to have candidates appreciate the big picture and recognize the critical, strategic and dynamic nature of supply chain management. This module lays the foundation for the remaining modules and workshops. The focus of this module is on matters of strategic significance, from defining supply chain management for an organization, to assessing supply chain risk and conducting a supply chain social responsibility audit. The issue of fit between organizational goals and supply chain design is an overarching theme in line with our strategic approach that there is no “one best way” to manage supply chains. You will leave equipped to analyze supply chains and make recommendations to improve supply chain performance. A Candidate’s Manual is included in the cost of the course.
