THE FIRST DAYS
The first days at Nursery are a big step for the children-and the parents!
We understand this and work to make this time as easy as possible. Parents are always advised to visit the Nursery with their child before they are left for the first time.
A child who is tense or unhappy will not be able to settle, play and learn properly, so it is important for parents and Nursery staff to work together to help the child feel confident and secure in the group. This takes longer for some children than for others and parents should not feel worried if their child take a while to settle.
Within this room we have a mixed age group where children have a sense of being part of a family. Activities and toys are freely available to all children with lots of free choice. We plan activities within the guidelines of the new EYFS ( Early Years Foundation Stage)
Staff interact with children encouraging and supporting them where needed. We use Treasure Baskets to encourage touch, smell feel colour and sound and the freedom of movement inside and outside to provide them with varied experiences.
WHAT TO WEAR
In order to feel free to explore and experiment with all kinds of materials, including messy ones, it is best to send children dressed in clothes which are easily washable or not too new.
It is good for children to practice skills which make them independent. Simple clothing which they can handle themselves will enable them to go to the toilet when they want to, and to put on and take off their outdoor clothes without being too dependent on other people’s help.
MEALS Children will have the option to either bring a packed lunch or have a hot meal which will be transported from St Botolphs Primary School. Copy’s of menus are available and we can also cater for special dietetary requirements.
