Erica Andreozzi

EricaAndreozzi (Biomedical Engineering) recently presented a talk titled, “Radiolabeling Solid Lipid Nanoparticles to Track their Biodistribution in vivo: Applications for Drug Delivery” at the 2010 Annual Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES) meeting in Austin, TX (October 6-9, 2010). Erica was also as a second place winner ($15,000) in the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC) Grand Challenge at the 11th Annual UC Bioengineering Systemwide Symposium, 2010

David Dallas (Nutritional Biology), Nadia Ono (Biochemistry & Molecular Biology), Rena Goodman (Chemistry), and Barbara Bailus (Genetics) were awarded the National Science Foundation Graduate Student Fellowships for three years.

Mateo Hernandez (Chemistry) gave his first talk at the American Vacuum Society Symposium last month in the In Situ Spectroscopy of Biological Interfaces group.

At the March national meeting of the Society of Toxicology, Thomas Hill’s (Pharmacology & Toxicology) abstract was selected for a special additional viewing as part of educational outreach programs and was recognized with the 2010 Young Investigator of the Year Award by the Northern California Chapter of the Society of Toxicology.

Dave Sela (Microbiology) was the recipient of the 2010 John E. Kinsella Memorial Prize for the best dissertation from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences.

Sunny Shah (Biomedical Engineering) was awarded the NSF EAPSI Fellowship to perform collaborative international research for this past summer. Sunny spend 10 weeks at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology in South Korea researching on bioactive polymers. Sunny also received the UC Davis Dissertation Fellowship for 2010-11.

Breanna Wallace (Molecular, Cellular & Integrative Physiology) was awarded the Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Scholarship and Floyd & Mary Schwall Dissertation Year UCD Fellowship in Medical Research this year.

Marisa Wong, A DEB Alum (Animal Science) received her first RO1, 6 years after graduating from UC Davis. She is now officially a PI and running her own lab at Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute (CHORI)!

Big Bang Winners: Inserogen team won first place (Lucas Arzola, a Chemical Engineering and DEB graduate student, is shown at the following site giving his team’s presentation. Lucas also won 1st place in the International Poster Competition at the 2010 Agricultural Biotechnology International Conference (ABIC 2010) in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada held on Sept 12-15.
