A New Direction
WNS Mission Statement
The mission of the Wesselman Nature Society is to preserve the natural resources in the Evansville area, to provide environmental education, and to promote the enjoyment of these treasures.
The Wesselman Nature Society is a 501c(3) not-for-profit, environmental education organization. We were founded in 1973 for the purpose of protecting the nearly 200-acre tract in Evansville, Indiana now known as Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve. Today, the Society is responsible for the management and daily operations of Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, as well as our Westside property, Howell Wetlands, and our newest venture, Canoe Evansville.
In the spring of 2008, WNS undertook an ominous effort in the funding, operations, and management of the Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, Howell Wetlands, and Canoe Evansville. In a creative agreement with the City of Evansville, and with the support of the Evansville City Parks and Recreation Department, WNS has taken on the challenge of providing lifelong environmental education through programs and events.
This opportunity requires WNS to increase revenues for the management of natural resources, education programs, sustainable awareness and education, raptor rehabilitation and education/ experience program, research events/programs, and education/administrative staff. It is through membership, partnerships, endowments, and grant opportunities that we will endeavor to increase our revenue sources.
