The Hope Kit is used by individuals and groups in various settings. The activities address issues around HIV prevention, stigma, voluntary counseling and testing, positive living, and promote hope and openness. Trained facilitators choose an activity depending on the groups they have and issues that need to be addressed. All participants take part in activities and at the end participants develop personal plans for their lives. A guide provides an easy to follow step by step explanation of each activity.
Although the Hope Kit has not been used widely in Malawi, results from the pre-testing exercise overwhelmingly support the use of the kit. Many people who used the activities in the Hope Kit tell stories of how their live have changed.
The Journey of Hope-Hope Kit is a new promising practice in HIV prevention that help to promote hope and openness, build skills and increase risk perception. It is a practice that needs to be promoted.
