A Message from the Chairman:

On St. Patrick’s Day in 1971, here in Washington, DC, a group of Irish American labor leaders joined together to celebrate that holiest of holy days and to form the D.C. Friends of Ireland. These individuals shared a common love of: (1) the United States and Ireland; (2) the Labor Movement and (3) spending time with good friends

The evening of April 3, 2011 gives us the opportunity to keep alive the spirit of the founders of D.C. Friends and to welcome those of you with us here tonight who are in Washington for the Building and Construction Trades Legislative Conference

In years past, proceeds from this event have allowed us to contribute hun- dreds of thousands of dollars to worthwhile charities at home and in Ireland. Our primary interests have always been in helping kids. DC Friends has provided numerous scholarships over the years for the children of Irish trade unionists as well as assisting children affected by the strife and struggle that has gone on far too long in Northern Ireland. Now we intend to focus not only on those children, but also the young American men and women who have heroically fought for our country in Iraq and Afghanistan. These heroes have answered our nation’s call to service and they need our help. Thanks to your generosity, they are going to get it.

Just received the good news that Congressman Richie Neal (D - Mass.) will be joining us on the evening of April 3rd and will be our guest speaker. He is a great friend of Ireland and of the D.C. Friends of Ireland.

Thank you,

Terence M. O’Sullivan Chairman
