Shukri Maail is currently a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia, and teaches courses in the field of Geotechnical Engineering. He joined UPM in 1981 as a tutor and appointed lecturer in 1985.
His secondary education was at the Sultan Yahya Petra Secondary School, Kuala Krai, Kelantan before he went to the Malay College Kuala Kangsar. He completed his A-level at the Southampton Technical College, before obtaining his undergraduate degree in the field of Civil Engineering from the Nottingham University. He latercompleted his Master of Science degree in Soil Mechanics from the Imperial College, London University.
Besides teaching, he is involved in research and consultancy works. His main research interest is in the strength properties of tropical residual soil and its influence on stability of steep cut- slope. His other research areas are on interpretation of pile tests, site investigations and geotechnical field instrumentations.
He has co-authored a number of books in soil mechanics and foundation engineering and has published and presented a number of technical papers on his favourite subject.
