The Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry and the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia are co-hosting an International Grains Forum as part of the 32nd session of the International Grains Council in Perth, Western Australia on 7-9 December 2010.

The forum, to be held on 8 December, will address the theme ‘Grains supplies and global food security’and will be followed by a field tour of Western Australian grains industry facilities and operations on 9 December.

With world population expected to reach 9 billion by 2050, global food security is becoming a critical issue especially with agricultural systems facing the impacts of a changing climate. Grain commodities will play an important role in tackling the issues associated with global food security and the International Grains Forum will examine how factors at play within the world’s grain industries will affect global food supplies.

The forum will bring together a distinguished group of international and national speakers well placed to provide a range of perspectives on the issues facing global grain production into the future.

The International Grains Forum represents a valuable opportunity for delegates to network with a diverse range of grains industry representatives from grain traders and buyers through to government and non-government organisations dealing with grains industry issues.

I look forward to welcoming you to Western Australia and the International Grains Forum and Field Tour on 8-9 December 2010.

Rob Delane Director General Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia.
