As originally drawn up by John Haugo, the record guidelines require (1) that the record-holder be a resident of Minnesota at the time the record is set; (2) that preference be given to records set in fully officiated state, regional, national or world masters competitions; (3) that record submissions include official meet results or verifiable results published in the National Masters News or other reliable publications; that records should be kept only for those events included in USA Masters Track and Field Standards of Excellence, and (5) all records that meet the Masters Standards of Excellence be noted.
