11. Summary and Conclusion

An Updating and Screening Assessment (U&SA) of air pollutant sources in and bordering the region of West Berkshire Council has been undertaken.

The assessment has been undertaken in line with technical guidance and utilising screening tools developed on behalf of Defra for the LAQM review and assessment process.

During Phase 1 of Review and Assessment, WBC identified a number of roads that had the potential to produce significant emissions of pollutants, particularly with respect to NO2 and PM10. At Stage 3 of the process the Council concluded that it was unlikely that any of the AQOs, relevant at the time, would be exceeded.

The U&SA has reviewed the Council’s Stage 1,2 and 3 reports, details of industrial, domestic and mobile sources and estimated and monitored ambient concentrations. Potential changes in emission sources have also been identified in consultation with the Council.

Conclusion

From a review of the Council’s information and Defra guidance, it is considered unlikely that a Detailed Assessment would be required for any potential source identified in the West Berkshire District.

The recommended stages of further assessment are detailed in Table 11.1 below.
