4. Presentations

4.1 DBUG member Sarah Lausberg - shared her experiences of bike riding in Europe earlier this year. She also shared with us the bike safety program she is running at her workplace as a health promotion officer with Western Region Health Centre.

(i) Bicycle safety program

Kids bike days:

Learning objectives are correct helmet fitting and safe clothing.

Bike fix workshops:

Learning objectives are for kids to gain skills and confidence to repair and maintain their bikes.

Bike riding promotion:

(ii) Cycle Culture in Europe

Sarah travelled in Europe earlier this year, mainly France and Holland. There is a different cycle culture. For example, lots more bikes, bike lanes and bike parking in Holland.

4.2 Video of cycling in Amsterdam

The video that Jason den Hollander from BoroondaraBUG was unable tp play at our May meeting due to technical failure was played at this meeting. The video featured travelling around Amsterdam by bike, observing their bike lanes, bike parking and bike culture in general.

5. General Business

5.1 Campaigns Up Date and Hazard Report items

Robin continues to work with Darebin council on the Darebin Bike Strategy

b.

Darebin Creek trail: line markings are now complete, signage will be happening very soon.

c.

St Georges Rd Roundabout and the vegetation growing over the path are still ongoing campaign issues.

d.

Last Sunday, 13 August 2006, the campaigns sib-committee rode around Darebin to look at some bike developments in the area, including bike lanes on Gilbert St, Broadway, and Bundoora Park issues. They signed up a new DBUG member on the way.
