Craig Thorburn has recently joined the staff of the World Bank, following several years of experience with the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA) as General Manager in the Diversified Institutions Division. He joined APRA's predecessor, the Insurance and Superannuation Commission as Australian Government Actuary in April 1996 and then moved to life insurance supervision as Deputy Commissioner–Life Insurance in February 1998. Since December 1999, Craig has been chair the International Association of Insurance Supervisors' (IAIS) Sub Committee on Solvency. He is also a participant on the Joint Forum Working Group on Risk Assessment and Capital issues for conglomerates, and the Insurance Committee of the OECD and has been the Institute of Actuaries of Australia's representative to the International Actuarial Association's Social Security Sub Committee since 1997. He is a Adjunct Fellow inActuarial Studies at the Australian National University and a member of the advisory board to the Centre for Actuarial Studies at the University of Melbourne.
