7. Mr. Alvaro Clarke de la Cerda

Mr. Alvaro E. Clarke is Chairman of the Superintendencia de Valores y Seguros of Chile (Chilean Securities and Insurance Regulator). Mr. Clarke has a distinguished background of service in the financial sector both in Chile and in the Latin American region generally. Formerly, he served as Deputy Minister of Finance, Chile, as well as Advisor to the Finance Minister, and Executive Secretary of the Capital Market Committee, Ministry of Finance. He also served as Alternate Governor for the Inter-American Development Bank. Other regulatory and leadership roles he has held include: President of COTRISA, a government agency that commercializes wheat, Member of Chile’s Anti-Monopoly Commission; and Director, International Cooperation Agency. Mr. Clarke has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of several State corporations, including: Metro S.A. (subway), Colbun S.A. (electrical company), Ferrocarriles del Estado (railroad corp.), and ESVAL (utility company). He maintains an interest in scholarly pursuit of economics, as well, and presently serves as Chairman and Professor at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Chile. Mr. Clarke holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Master of Arts from Catholic University of Louvain, Economic Engineer and Bachelor in Economics from University of Chile.
