The Mary Wilkins Lecture Endowment
In the Spring, 2002, the Board of the North Central Region, ACPE approved a proposal to create an en- dowment to support an annual Mary Wilkins Lec- ture to be delivered at the NCR Annual Meeting. The Lecture will address the theoretical foundations of clinical pastoral education. The Lecturer will be an experienced CPE supervisor who will be encouraged to use current ACPE certification theory paper guide- lines to address one or more aspects of the theoretical foundations of CPE. It is expected that the Lecture will also be submitted for publication in an appropri- ate journal.
By specifying that the Lecturer be an experienced supervisor, we affirm that reflection on the theoreti- cal foundations of our work is important for all super- visors, not just for those in supervisory education. Further, we hope that by encouraging reflection on the theoretical foundations of CPE by experienced supervisors we will help supervisors-in-training articu- late the theoretical foundations of their supervision.
The occasion of her recent retirement is a fitting time to recog- nize Mary Wilkins’ long and dedicated career as a pastoral educator.
As the first woman to be trained and certified as a CPE
supervisor in the North Central Region, and as a woman who has devoted a considerable portion of her career to training new CPE supervisors, an ap- propriate way to honor Mary is to support supervi- sory education in the North Central Region, ACPE.
We plan to raise an initial endowment of $10,000. A committee has been formed of persons who will help raise the endowment for the Wilkins Lecture. The names of current members of the committee are listed below. Additional members of the committee are welcomed.

The formal announcement of the Endowment appeal was made at the recent regional annual meeting. At that time we had contributions of $3,000 toward the endowment—$1,000 from The North Central Re- gion; $1,000 from Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center; and $500.00 each from Jim & He- len Gibbons and George & Judy Fitchett. At the meeting Larry Easterling presented a $1000.00 check to the Endowment from the Advocate Health Care System:
