GT ONLINE TRAINING
DO YOU NEED 30 HOURS OF
According to the Texas State Plan for the Education of Gifted and Talented Students, teachers are required to obtain 30 hours of GT training before they provide ser- vices to an identified GT student. This training must in- clude these topics:
Nature and Needs of GT Students
Identification and Assessment of GT Students
Curriculum and Instruction for GT Students
HOW DOES THIS WORK? Region 19 offers 5 courses that count towards the required 30 hours. Each course counts as 6 hours of GT credit. All classes may be taken, or only particular classes within the series may be taken, as needed.
All classes are available at all times, so that teachers may register whenever necessary. When a teacher registers, he/she is sent an email containing login instructions and an individualized schedule. All classes are allotted 3-4 weeks to complete. Each course is taken one at a time, with suc- cessful completion required to move to the next course.
Region 19’s GT Online series will satisfy the State’s GT training requirements in a user-friendly, convenient way. After the initial 30-hour training, teachers are then re- quired to obtain a yearly GT 6-hour update during the years they are providing instruction to GT students.
WHAT ARE THE CLASSES LIKE?
Coursework consists of reading, writing, research, and post- ing assignments to an interactive conference board. Stu- dents are expected to interact with each other and with the facilitator. Assignments are completed at one’s own pace within the allotted timeframe. At the end of the course, a short assessment must be taken and passed.
Each course costs $70.00.
Classes are payable via P.O., district check, credit card, etc. Please contact Elsa Nino at (915) 780-5067 for more details regarding payment arrangements.
