PDAM does not maintain consistent records of the existing supply network in Kota Jantho. THW is of the opinion that most of the secondary pipelines will need replacement in the medium term and that more supply robustness has to be added by new looped supply mains. In Seulimeum PDAM owns a small independent water supply scheme covering the town’s centre, mainly the market area. The scheme with a design capacity of 10l/s includes an intake at Krueng Buga (one submersible pump), a small package treatment plant, a reservoir, and a distribution network. All parts of this scheme have been out of operation for several years and may now be beyond repair.
The town of Indrapuri has never been served by PDAM.
The UNICEF funded pipeline project from Siron 2 WTP to 22 temporary living centres (TLC) is a first step of PDAM to expand its service area in the sub-districts of Baitussalam, Darussalam, and eventually Mesjid Raya. Even though this project mostly caters for the demands of existing TLC and transitional shelter schemes, it will eventually stimulate PDAM to expand its service area. In addition, PDAM may soon find a rapidly expanding market for water provision in this area, due to housing projects of BRR and several international agencies, the provincial plan to establish an ‘airport city’ including a light industry zone, and foreseen demands of the Malahayati Port and adjacent settlements.
