KRUENG MOUNTALA WATER SUPPLY FEASIBILITY STUDY

4. KRUENG MOUNTALA INTAKE AND TRANSMISSION LINE TO KOTA JANTHO

PDAM operates two intakes at Krueng Mountala, both approximately at an elevation of 270m above sea level, and approximate coordinates E 781,920; N 583,390. The intakes are in a ‘Protected Forest Area’. From there water is conveyed to a small service area in Kota Jantho. The total length of the transmission line is approximately 7km. The existing installations including the intakes, transmission pipes, a pressure breaking intermediate reservoir, a sand trap and the distribution network in Kota Jantho are in poor state of repair but remain operational.

THW refurbished one intake and the subsequent transmission pipes in August 06. The agency also plans to extend the supply network in Kota Jantho to a housing scheme for tsunami victims (financed by CARE). THW has some water quality analysis but only episodic information on the seasonal discharge pattern in Krueng Mountala. PDAM maintains no data on flow and water quality in Krueng Mountala.

    TRANSMISSION LINE JANTHO

    • SEULIMEUM –INDRAPURI – LAMBARO (BANDA ACEH)

Between Jantho and Seulimeum the proposed transmission line would most likely follow the access road to Kota Jantho. The approximate distance is 11km.

From the Seulimeum intersection towards Banda Aceh there are three possible public right of ways, the Banda Aceh to Sigli Road, an irrigation channel, and an old train track (abandoned). The total length of this section is 32km.

At Lambaro several options for further inter-connection (with sufficient pressure head) exist, namely:

  • 1.

    connection to the supply network of PDAM Tirta Daroy of Kota Banda Aceh at Lambaro WTP (2km further);

  • 2.

    connection to the supply network of PDAM Aceh Besar at Siron 2 WTP (3km further).
