Sailing Sec. Tony Fastnedge
A sailing forum took place the day after the AGM at which a number of new ideas (related to racing) were discussed, including ways to reduce the time difference between the first and last competitor in a race. It was thought that if we had 2 fleets, Gold and Silver, with separate starts and results, this would go some way to resolving this problem. It would also allow the less experienced people to enjoy a start without being intimidated by the “Hot Shots”!! From the 2010 and former part of 2011 race results, personal handicaps would be calculated and used to determine which helms would be invited to sail in the Silver Fleet. Silver helms will be allowed to sail in the Gold Fleet but not the other way round. This would allow those Silver helms, who elect to sail in this fleet, to have a separate start and a race duration that is similar to the Gold Fleet. Hopefully as they improve they may feel confident enough to join the Gold fleet. We will be looking at how we identify the boats (either Silver or Gold) to make life easier for the Race Officer.
The Fleet lists and further details will be explained prior to starting the fleet racing.
