Sally Holman Update on 2010
Jeremy White gave a full report to the AGM on 30th Oct and thanked all involved in the club youth training. Sessions were well supported, adult instructors including Colin Walters, Alex Fairley, Andre Rossignol and Jeremy White were joined by Youth instructors and led by SI Martin Moore. Regularly sailing with the club in races on Sundays and Wednesdays are Cameron Moss, Josh Coates and Tom Waspe. A free session for local young people was held in Sept which proved very popular. It is hoped to repeat that next year.
2011:Get on the list for training sessions when Renewing your membership!
Looking forward to 2011, it is important that ALL youth members who wish to come along on Tuesdays fill in the appropriate line on their Renewals Form so that their names go forward to the list for 2011. Forms will be sent out by email or post by the beginning of December.
Sally reminds everyone that even if they have joined only since September this year, and indicated they’d like to learn to sail on their joining form, they must still return the Renewal Form so that they confirm their wish to be included.
The list will be made, as always, on a first-come-first-served basis, except that a new group of up to 10 youth members will be given priority.
As always, numbers of places are limited, so please do renew early. If our assistant instructors and instructors would also renew promptly, that helps us with estimating group numbers!
We have 6 youth instructors who will be able to gain experience across the groups, with Colin or Jeremy on PJ and Alex, Martin, Andre and Jeremy overseeing each group while Grahame Forshaw takes charge on the water. This means our young instructors can benefit from extra top level coaching as well as being mentored in their teaching skills.
Those successful in gaining a place for Tuesday training will be notified as soon as possible after 1 Feb 2011. An induction day for all members and their parents will be held before Easter and sessions will start immediately afterwards.
Lyme Regis Sailing Club Youth Prizegiving 2010
On Sat 6 Nov the Prizegiving and supper for LRSC Youth Section was held. A thriving section of the club, with over 40 young members regularly attending sessions and the over 16s passing on their love of sailing to younger members as instructors, it traditionally holds its prizegiving on Bonfire night before enjoying the town fireworks.
Top Instructor Jo Burleigh was awarded the coveted Jim Gait Seamanship Trophy for his excellent seamanship and leadership. Tom Waspe and Josh Coates are two keen young sailors who regularly join in club racing and assisted with the free session for local youngsters held in September. Cameron Moss is a regular at the club on Sundays and Wednesdays where he races with his father Darrol. Also among the
