50 Fabulous Books to Read in First Grade

Growing Readers is a reading program designed to support and encourage reading time at home between parents and their young student. Research continues to show a direct correlation between children reading at home daily and their success in learning to read.

Just as plants need water, sunshine, and care to develop; so young children need books, practice, and time in order to grow into readers. This book log has specific titles for you and your child to read together. These books have been carefully selected and support necessary pre-reading and beginning reading skills as well as the current First Grade curriculum. Next to each title, is a space for you and your child to place a sticker after you have read the book together. The stickers are a way for your child to express an opinion on the book by either drawing a smile or a frown on the sticker. This is also an opportunity for you to extend conversation about the story with your child.

By spending time every day reading with your child, you are increasing the chances that he/she will blossom into a reader and lover of learning. Now let’s get Growing!!!
