Seven former UWCSEA teachers celebrate their 70th!

Seven ex-teaching colleagues from UWCSEA celebrated their 70th birthdays together this past summer.

They have dubbed themselves the “Babes of 1936”, and they include Neil Breeze, who taught English, John Edwards, Music and Boarding, Alex Forbes, Spanish and French, Brian Green, Pursuits and Boarding, Ethel Green, Junior Boarding, Clive Sherwin, Drama and Russian, and Sally Tunnicliffe, Home Economics.

Five of the seven gathered together in the UK, and their birthday celebration ex- panded into a mini staff reunion with most of the attendees having taught at UWCSEA in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. They took the opportunity to reacquaint and remi- nisce while the wine and stories flowed. Other former UWCSEA teachers in attendance were Kathleen Watson, Brian and Marion Carpenter, Joan Gorrie, Valerie Kerr, John and Margaret Collins, Gavin and Moira Waddell and Di Greenwood.

Talk about an alumni connection!

Chandra Widjaja (Class of 1983) feels that her five years at UWCSEA pretty much shaped her life in more ways than one! She is married to another alumnus, her husband’s brothers are alumni, her own brother and his wife are both alumni, the best man at her wedding and the best man at her brother’s wedding are both alumni, her husband works for, and with, other alumni, and many of her friends are alumni! If you want to add yourself to Chandra’s alumni connections, she can be contacted through the alumni website.

If you are planning an alumni reunion or get-together, please let us know at alumni@uwcsea.edu.sg
