The Office of Career Services, the International Legal Studies and the Law and Government Programs are co-sponsoring this semester Cover Letter and Interviewing Skills Workshops for Foreign-Trained LL.M. students. Come and get training on cover letter writing and interviewing skills. Please if you are planning to attend any of the following sessions, send an e-mail to Sandra P. Buteau at sbuteau@wcl.american.edu, reserving your slot:

April 19, 2004 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. (noon) in Room 526

Why do you need to attend this workshop? You are going to get very important information on how to draft a cover letter, why it is important to always include a cover letter with a resume when you are applying for a position. You will also get tips on how interviews are conducted in the U.S., and much more.

********************************************************** INDIVIDUAL APPOINTMENTS WITH THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR INTERNATIONAL CAREER PROGRAMS

After participating in a resume workshop, you will be able to schedule an individual appointment with the Assistant Director for International Career Programs by stopping by the Office of Career Services (Room 515) or calling (202) 274- 4090.

Individual appointments with the Assistant Director for International Career Programs are an hour long, and if you already have a resume or cover letter for review, please drop a hard copy in Room 515 (OCS) or e-mail the draft to sbuteau@wcl.american.edu, 24 hours prior to the meeting.

If you have just a quick job search question, you can either e-mail it to Sandra P. Buteau at sbuteau@wcl.american.edu, or stop by Room 515 (OCS) on Fridays when she has open door policy from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

********************************************************** MOCK INTERVIEWS

Do not let your first interview actually be your first interview in the United States. One of the best ways to prepare for upcoming interviews is to participate in a mock interview. Sandra P. Buteau, the Assistant Director for International Career Programs, will be conducting mock interviews by appointment only in OCS. She requests that students drop off a copy of their resume 24 hours prior to the appointment and indicate what employer-type they would like her to assume in the mock interview and also bring description of the position you are applying for. To schedule a mock interview, please stop by OCS (Room 515) or schedule an appointment with Sandra P. Buteau.

What is a mock interview?

A mock interview is an individual session with a career counselor to help you prepare for an interview. The counselor will ask you traditional and behavioral questions and you will be asked to respond them, as in a real interview. After the interview, you will be given constructive feedback regarding your interviewing style and how you responded to the questions.
