Preliminary Damage Assessment
Of the 21 respondents to the questionnaire, 90.5% or 19 had established damage
assessment plans leaving only 9.5% or two jurisdictions currently without a viable PDA. Of the
agencies that responded only three provided copies of their PDA’s. Those agencies included the
Isle of Wight, VA, the Town of Chincoteague, VA and the Lower Shore Red Cross of MD,
The Commonwealth of Virginia also provided a model damage assessment plan in addition to
the PDA identified within their State Emergency Operations Plan. The model is a generic,
ready-made plan that jurisdictions may use if they have not developed a PDA for their locality.
