Preliminary Damage Assessment
Until that time, a partnership will be developed with a locality outside of the affected area for the
posting of pertinent information as it becomes available.
The research made it quite clear that recent events both national and international have
prompted additional studies and the results of these studies has profoundly influenced the
continuum of information available. Further research is needed to evaluate the usefulness and
practicality of emerging technologies such as the satellite imagery and pictography mentioned in
the literary review. This technology may have the ability to further minimize the use of land-
based assessment crews, provide greater detail and significantly speed the collection and
processing of damage information.
The final result of this research is the development of an inclusive, area-specific damage
assessment plan that supports the accurate and timely collection of vital information in order to
complete the required documentation needed for recovery assistance to the residents of
Accomack County. Having a comprehensive plan in place is the goal, but it in and of itself is not
enough, we must be able to ensure its readiness at all times. This is a critical element that will
ultimately determine the true measure of success of this research project.
