(PRESENTED UNDER SUSPENSION OF SECTION 24-1-A OF THE RULES OF THE BOARD OF ALDERMEN)
February 14, 2005
The Honorable Board of Aldermen
City of New Haven
165 Church Street
New Haven, CT 06510
Dear Honorable Board Members:
In accordance with the Order of the Board of Aldermen authorizing the Mayor to apply for and accept all grants on behalf of the City of New Haven, passed October 17, 1994, I am respectfully writing to advise the Honorable Board of an application by the City of New Haven’s Department of Police Service to the U.S. Department of Justice. The Department is applying for $350,380 for funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance, Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program. This is the maximum amount allowed to New Haven by formula.
Funds will be used for police overtime to address crime hot spots and community problem solving meetings. Funds will also be used for enhancing police equipment and training activities.
I am submitting this matter under a suspension agenda as the grant opportunity has just been announced and requires submission to the City’s governing body 30 days before application deadline, which is March 31. Thank you for your prompt consideration of this matter. Please contact me at (203) 946-6333 with any questions you may have.
Francisco Ortiz, Jr.
