WHEREAS: the City of New Haven has been determined to be eligible to receive the grant funding for the park trail space in Edgewood Park; and
WHEREAS: the City of New Haven is dedicated to the preservation and use, by the residents of the City of New haven, of the trails within the City’s parks.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Alderman of the City of New Haven that the Mayor is directed to apply for, and authorized to execute any documents or contracts with the State of Connecticut required to accept this grant, if offered, for $26,934.00, for the restoration of the Edgewood Park trails, and to provide any other additional information or documentation that may be required by the grant.
WHEREAS, The City of New Haven wishes to enhance land use planning within the New Haven Coastal District; and
WHEREAS, the New Haven Coastal District is an overlay zoning district which promotes water-dependent uses, environmental stewardship and public access to our coastal resources; and
WHEREAS, the existing New Haven Coastal Program is over 20 years old and is, in some instances, no longer consistent with city policies; and
WHEREAS, the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection makes grant funds available in support of the Connecticut Coastal Area Management Act, including the development of a coastal program update; and
WHEREAS, the City Plan Department, working with other municipal officials, the City Plan Commission and the community at large, proposes to use this grant program to (1) develop a new version of the New Haven Coastal Program; (2) recommend any necessary zoning changes; (3) reduce administrative burdens; and (4) improve customer service; and
WHEREAS, a coastal program update is an appropriate complement to recent work on a new comprehensive plan of development; and
WHEREAS, with DEP assistance, the City Plan Department will be able to complete the coastal program update in a timely manner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Alderman of the City of New Haven that the Mayor, through the City Plan Department, is authorized to apply for and accept grant funding from the State of Connecticut, Department of Environmental Protection, for up to $30,000, and is granted the authority to enter into agreements or contracts and execute any amendments, thereto.
