Considered an eccentric, he was the leader of the aesthetic movement that advocated “art for art’s sake” and was once imprisoned for two years with hard labor for homosexual practices. The Nightingale and the Rose (1888) - A fairy tale about a nightingale who presses her breast against a thorn until a rose is born.
