FEI Chicago Chapter
President’s Message by: Jim Atkinson
We are finishing another great year in the Chicago Chapter of FEI. This was certainly a team effort that was carried out by our members who serve you on the Board and the Committees. Each group worked hard to deliver such consistently outstanding programs for our members. While space constraints prevent me from mentioning everyone involved, I want to recognize the Chapter’s leadership team who spearheaded these activities .
First , I want to recognize the outstanding efforts of the Membership Committee which was so ably led by Marge Johnsson. (By the way – this is the same Marge Johnsson who was recently named Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Illinois and represented Illinois at the National Awards in Washing- ton, D.C. earlier this month).
The Membership Committee has done an outstanding job. Here are the numbers: The Chicago Chapter added over 100 new members in the past year and our membership stands at an all time high of 715. We are now the second largest local FEI Chapter, having recently passed the NYC chapter. I would also like to recognize Jeff Hudson for his work as Retention Chair. He and his small sub committee have been very successful in our retention efforts.
Their recruitment and retention efforts were made all the easier by the three committees that bring you the high quality activities we offer on a monthly basis. For that, I want to recognize and thank Bill Schrank, Marie Hollein, Carol Sherman, Heather Korsvik, Mark Zorko and Bill Seiden for their fine work with the monthly Dinner Programs, Profes- sional Development and Career Services Committees.
I would like to thank Mark Garrette, our treasurer, for all of his extra efforts on our behalf this year as well as Jay Steiber, our secretary who also does a great job organizing the upcoming Chapter Golf outing. Thanks to Barry Slaughter for volunteering to perform our annual audit. Thanks also to Ellen Landgraf for handling the Chapter Scholarship program in a most professional manner. Thanks to Mike Kessel for the Technology Committee’s work on the website. Again, many thanks to Mary Moore for guiding us to Gidley Management Group, our Chapter administra- tor . The Gidley’s do a great job for the Chapter; they are a pleasure to deal with. Their service level was always top notch.
Finally, I want to acknowledge the support and guidance provided by our two most recent Chapter Presidents, Dave Cavallo and Jeff McReynolds.
I have very much enjoyed working with the officers and directors to serve you, the members, and to continue to strengthen our Chicago Chapter operations. I truly appreciate all that each of you do for FEI. I also appreciate all the help and support provided by Phil Livingston and the National organization. Check out the FEI National website (including the Chicago Chapter page on National’s website) at www.fei.org
As I end this letter, I hope that each of you will think about getting involved with your fellow members on one of our committees at the local chapter or at the national level. We have or will be contacting many of you to solicit your participation. Please don’t wait to be asked if you have an interest; contact me, Bill Schrank or any of the committee chairs if you want to become more active. It need not be a significant amount of time, just a few hours a month. Re- member, if everyone does a little, no one has to do a lot.
Finally, I look forward to seeing you at the June 18th golf outing or at Ravinia in July. In the meantime, stay well, stay active and enjoy all the benefits FEI has to offer. Thank you again for the opportunity to serve you. I look forward to the next year and wish Bill Schrank and the new Officers and Directors continued success.
