Korenko donates books to library
Elaine Lickfelt accepts the gift of two books on the history of Kelleys Island from Leslie Korenko. The books will become a permanent part of the Reference section of the genealogy department of the KI library. This is the second book Leslie has written on island history, the first covering the earliest island settlers and this one entitled: Kelleys Island 1862-1866 - The Civil Wa , the Island Soldiers & the Island Queen.
Fifty Years, and then some…
Summer 2010 was just the right time for Dianne and Chuck Hacker to have a little fun and festivity. Island homeowners for 35 years, the Hackers were able to secure a summer place after selling their island home last year when health and medical needs required more frequent mainland care and monitoring.
Celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary was a particularly joyous occasion. They shared it with family and nearly 200 of their dearest long time friends at the Sandusky Carousel Museum. Wendy Kromer, who makes wedding cakes for Martha Stewart, made the Hackers four-tiered anniver- sary cake with a carousel topper.
It is hard to imagine that fifty years could have passed since this serene, gracious, and youthful couple (natives of Castalia and Bellevue) said "I do" on July 24, 1960. Perhaps their love, respect, and loyalty to one another
have contributed to the elegance of their graciousness with each other, with others.
Their three adult daughters, sons- in-law, and grandchildren framed and enriched their happiness on this spe- cial day. Grand-daughters Lexis, Lindsay, and Laci McKillips-have "island blood" from their paternal grandfather Darryl McKillips and his
father late McKillips.
The anniversary seemed to have set the Hackers in the mood for cele- brations. They hosted the traditional summer party for the Island Singers cast on August 14. Harmonious laugh- ter echoed from the verandahs in an August heat best described as "just too darn hot!"
Trays of healthy and decadent treats refreshed the singers, who wel- comed the respite in the face of the now intensifying pace of practice for
the Labor Day weekend show. Gracious and com- fortable hosts, the Hackers set the mood for relaxing, amid choruses of chatter. Bob May, aka "Pastor Bob," the former pastor of the island's Zion Community Church, and his wife Nancy were much welcomed guests.

stone in their marriage. We appreciate the spirit of hospitality and affection they have demonstrated, and what
they have contributed to the commu- nity of island living.
