Which File Operations do I Need?

Typically, a driver will implement:

open()

release()

a.k.a., the user-space close()

read()

write()

ioctl()

Additional features like mmap(), poll(), fasync(), and flush() are nice to haves

You can add them at any time during development

Some methods like llseek() and readv()/writev() may not apply to your device

You decide what to support and errors to return
