IIA Qatar Chapter Inauguration

We had a very successful official inauguration of our Chapter. The press extensively covered the event H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Second Deputy Pre- mier and Minister of Energy and Industry, and the Pa- tron of IIA Qatar Chapter officially inaugurated the IIA Qatar chapter at the Ritz- Carlton Hotel in Doha on Monday night February 21, 2005. H.E. Al- Attiyah stressed that the Internal Audit Profession has a great challenge to help Qatari companies to ensure Good Corporate Governance, advise Boards and Manage- ment on improved Control Systems, emphasize Risk Management, develop Qatari nationals and prevent and detect Fraud. The Ceremony was attended by a great number of high ranking officials, dignitaries and VIP’s from companies, Banks, State Audit Bureau, national and foreign organi- zations, Doha Securities Market, Chamber of Com- merce and Industry , Insurance companies and agents, Managers of the biggest Hotels in Qatar, Businessmen, Internal Auditors working in different sectors, Manag-

ers and Directors from QP and subsidiaries as well as foreign joint ventures and shareholders working in the field of oil and gas in Qatar. The theme of the inaugu- ration was Qatar is Serious about Business Ethics & Corporate Governance. Thomas Warga, now Chair- man of the Board of the IIA, made a presentation about the role of IIA, its benefits and services and the role of audit committee in the Corporate Governance and Internal Auditing. Several IIA Qatar Chapter board members met with the President and Vice President of SAB and reviewed issues that have mutual benefits for both the Chapter and SAB. Training sessions in particular were explored and arrangements are being done through our IIA Inc. Headquarters. Details will be posted on our website in due course. Also the same Board members had exten- sive discussions with the Central Bank Internal Audit Management and issues of mutual benefits were dis- cussed.
