4. Prepare for more frequent and stringent product launches.
Consider integrating engineering and manufacturing processes and systems to more effectively support Lean; if there are multiple versions of the bill of mate- rial, this process will help eliminate them. Exploit the process data and knowl- edge developed in the value stream context to facilitate process engineering de- sign, process portability, and reduced risk during pilot production and production ramps. With the demand for more frequent product launches, will come increased expectations that the transition will happen rapidly and seamlessly; this will re- quire orchestration of processes between engineering and manufacturing.
