Chapter 27 News

MeetiNg MiNutes March 15, 2009

Call to order: The meeting for EAAChap- ter 27 was called to order by President Jim Simmons at 10:00. Officers Present; Jim Simmons, Bob Spaulding, Bill Jagoda, Rick Bernardi

Treasurer—Bill Jagoda: Bill reported a balance of $1048.62 Thanks, Bill!

2009 Membership Dues are due so please send a check to Bill if you haven’t done so already.

Technical Counselor Report—Dave Pepe: Jim welcomed Mike Zemsta as our newest Tech Counselor. Congratulations Mike. Our Chapter now has 3 excellent counselors; Dave Pepe, Mark Scott and Mike Zemsta.

Dave reported there are various tools available for building your aircraft. Also discussed were the proper disposal of ELT’s and the new upgrade requirement for 406 MHz units.

Young Eagles—Fran Uliano: We autho- rized Fran to purchase a Canon photo printer to replace the Polaroid and he is in the process of doing so.

Our next Young Eagle rallies;

Fran and Tony Valillo will be presenting the Young Eagles program at a career fair and will report at the next meeting.

I reported we had 10 to 12 to fly from the Young Astronaut club at a date to be determined.

Website, Newsletter and Director—Rick Beebe: As always, please feel free to upload pictures of your project and aircraft on our website. www.eaa27.org.

Rick reported that the upload was broken

again but should be ok now. Rick would like us to upload some updated pictures of our projects and aircraft.

Rick reminded us July 27 - August 2, 2009 is EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh and also noted that the HomebuiltAircraft Council is looking for a member.

Sikorsky Aircraft Tour—Mark Scott: The tour was exciting as ever, and get this—we were allowed into Igor’s office! It was up close and personal. To stand in his office is a feeling of going back in time.

Holiday Banquet—Maury Lisbon: As a reminder the Hawthorne Restaurant was selected and the date is Saturday Decem- ber 5th 2009.

Chapter Picnic—Mike Zemsta: The date of the Picnic will be Sunday September 20th and will also include an abbreviated membership meeting.

Airport Improvement Projects: The Tetrahedron still looks good and will be inspected to determine if painting is required. It looks like the protective coat- ing has done a good job. (Day-Glo will be supplied by the City) Repaint airport name and frequency on the taxiway, and Spring Cleanup. Dates to be determined. Phil Hax reported the windsock pole has a slight lean and needs to be looked at. It has a slight effect on the windsock indication.

Old Business: Dave reported that we have Young Eagle T’s and hats, along with golf and denim shirts for sale. If you have any suggestions for saleable EAA27 items contact Dave.

Bradley Air Museum: Meeting will be April 19th and a $10 admission Fee is required.

The framing of the “Spirit of Meriden” will cost more than anticipated, Jim is

evaluating alternatives.

New Business: Heather Woiciechowski has arranged another tour of the NY TRA- CON on May 2nd. Heather requires your name and Social Security number.

Heather also provided more information on the “Old Eagles” effort and discussed an open house or fly in at Meriden next year.

Mark Scott has offered another open house to update his progress on the Bear Hawk. Date to follow.

Mike Zemsta proposed a trip to Old Rhinebeck and is looking for interested participants. Get on the list, bring a picnic lunch and have a great time and don’t forget your camera.

Rick Beebe discussed the Founders Wing Project and requested any old Chapter pic- tures, documents tools, charts, plans, etc. that may be displayed in the museum.

Dave Pepe has volunteered to be a can- didate for the Aviation Commission opening.

AFly In At Robertson Airport, March 21st to show support for the purchase of the airport by the town of Plainville,

(A very successful turn out, and since this writ- ing the town voted to purchase the airport.)

Seminar Topics for the May meeting. Leon Woiciechowski has volunteered to give us a perspective of local tower operations; Leon works the New Haven Tower.

50/50 Raffle: Two admission tickets for the next meeting at The Bradley Air Museum were raffled.

Seminar Presentation: Bob Spaulding gave a very informative presentation on Engine Failure in Flight.
